In 2017, Paul Faronbi (Iowa State University, 2016) and Queenster Nartey (Grinnell College, 2016) founded the IINSPIRE LSAMP Alumni Committee (ILAC). The committee consists of alumni from across the IINSPIRE LSAMP Alliance with a mission to unite post-baccalaureate IINSPIRE students and facilitate successful undergraduate careers for current students. They expanded to form a full board in 2018 and revamped it in 2019. In December of 2019, Paul reached out to the Louis Stokes Midwest Regional Center of Excellence (LSMRCE) about partnering with other alumni groups. It was from there that the idea to connect all LSAMP Alumni was born, creating the National Association of LSAMP Alumni (NALA). NALA now consists of over 100 members across the United States and Puerto Rico. Members range from current graduate students, professors, industry professionals, and so much more!
NALA's Vision is to ensure that underrepresented minority students in STEM are prepared to assume leadership roles and professional opportunities. We will foster the career development and transition of our LSAMP students through conferences, workshops, and mentorship. We will do this by developing a network of LSAMP Alumni to shine a brighter future for our current undergraduate students.
